Margaret Cage, Deputy Cabinet Secretary of Special Education for the New Mexico Public Education Department, visited Amy Biehl Community School on Wednesday afternoon to celebrate Read Across America Day with Sheridan Preuss's kindergarten/1st grade combination class.
Read Across America Day is an annual event that encourages students to celebrate the joy of reading and the importance of literacy. Cage, alongside the enthusiastic students, helped mark the occasion by reading the beloved children's book Festival of Colors. The story, which depicts the Holi festival of colors, not only captivated the children with its vibrant illustrations but also imparted important lessons about embracing diversity and the beauty of cultural traditions.
To further celebrate the spirit of Read Across America, Cage made the day even more special by distributing bags filled with books, STEM challenge puzzles, and other goodies from her office. The thoughtful gifts were well-received, sparking joy and curiosity in the young learners as they left with new materials to fuel their imaginations and enhance their educational journeys.

Margaret Cage, subsecretaria de Educación Especial del Departamento de Educación Pública de Nuevo México, visitó la escuela comunitaria Amy Biehl el miércoles por la tarde para celebrar el Día de la Lectura en Estados Unidos con la clase combinada de jardín de infantes y primer grado de Sheridan Preuss.
El Día de la Lectura en Estados Unidos es un evento anual que alienta a los estudiantes a celebrar la alegría de la lectura y la importancia de la alfabetización. Cage, junto con los entusiastas estudiantes, ayudó a marcar la ocasión leyendo el querido libro infantil Festival of Colors. La historia, que describe el festival de colores Holi, no solo cautivó a los niños con sus vibrantes ilustraciones, sino que también impartió lecciones importantes sobre la aceptación de la diversidad y la belleza de las tradiciones culturales.
Para celebrar aún más el espíritu de Read Across America, Cage hizo que el día fuera aún más especial al distribuir bolsas llenas de libros, rompecabezas de desafío STEM y otros obsequios de su oficina.
