Amy Biehl Community School

SFPS students from Amy Biehl Community School at Rancho Viejo, Edward Ortiz Middle School and El Dorado Community School joined with more than 200 middle and high school students from throughout New Mexico on Saturday, April 13th for the 2024 New Mexico History Day Contest at UNM. Uniting them was the contest theme: "Turning Points in History."

"Congratulations to all the SFPS students and teachers who participated in the New Mexico History Day Contest! Their projects, which resulted from delving deeply into history and its relevance, are creative, meaningful and engaging. We are very proud of their efforts and strong representation of SFPS at the state level," said Superintendent Hilario "Larry" Chavez.

Taking first place for Group Performance was the 7th grade team from El Dorado, led by teachers Wendy Dove and Elisha Morrison, which presented "Three Women Breaking Free From Fashion Norms." The team includes students McMillan Boses, Nara Martinez, Lauren Robey and Kate Smith. Also taking first place, in the Group Website category, was another 7th grade team from El Dorado, also led by Dove and Morrison, which presented “Military Planes Changed the Way the Wars Were Fought and Impacted the Years to Come.” The team includes students Brennan Mahlum and Greyson Morrison.

Taking second place for Individual Exhibit was 6th grade student Zinnia Kilpatric from Amy Biehl, led by teacher Malcolm Smith Carlile, for “Alice Paul and the Suffrage Movement.” Also taking second place, in the Group Documentary category, were Amy Biehl 6th grade students Aaden Martinez and Mateo Torres, led by Smith Carlile, for “The Revolutionary Equation”.

Taking third place for the Paper category was Amy Biehl 6th grade student Catilin Adcock, led by Smith Carlile, for “Pueblo Revolt of 1680.”

In addition, other teams presented from Amy Biehl, El Dorado and Ortiz.

• For Amy Biehl, the 6th grade teams of Samuel Briones and Santiago Ocon Lopez entered “Slave Patrols: The Origins of Modern Policing” and Amarie Duran and Sophia Gonzales entered “Nicholas Trist and the Mexican American War," both in the Group Exhibit category.

• For El Dorado, the 7th grade teams of Moira Carlson, Ramsey Klinkrodt, Willow Murphy and Dylan Wilson entered "The Effect of Industrial Revolution on Pollution” in the Group Website category and Zooey Kessel, Bella Stuckey and Joshua Young entered “The French Revolution” in the Group Performance category.

• For Ortiz, the 7th grade team of Wilmer Alvarado and Irvin Marin entered “Creation of FIFA and Jugo Bonito” in the Group Exhibit category and 7th grade student Akiko Eri entered “An Effective System That Used An Indigenous Language: The Navajo Code-Talkers” in the Paper category.

The next stop for the winning teams and students is the nationals, which will be held in Maryland on June 9th-13th.

Los estudiantes de SFPS obtienen honores en Concurso del Día de la Historia de Nuevo México 2024

Los estudiantes de SFPS de la Escuela Comunitaria Amy Biehl en Rancho Viejo, la Escuela Intermedia Edward Ortiz y la Escuela Comunitaria El Dorado se unieron a más de 200 estudiantes de escuelas intermedias y secundarias de todo Nuevo México el sábado 13 de abril para el Concurso del Día de la Historia de Nuevo México 2024 en la UNM. Los unía el tema del concurso: "Puntos de inflexión en la historia".

"¡Felicitaciones a todos los estudiantes y maestros de SFPS que participaron en el Concurso del Día de la Historia de Nuevo México! Sus proyectos, que resultaron de profundizar en la historia y su relevancia, son creativos, significativos y atractivos. Estamos muy orgullosos de sus esfuerzos y su fuerte representación. del SFPS a nivel estatal", dijo el Superintendente Hilario "Larry" Chávez.

El primer lugar en Actuación Grupal lo obtuvo el equipo de séptimo grado de El Dorado, dirigido por las maestras Wendy Dove y Elisha Morrison, que presentaron "Tres mujeres liberándose de las normas de la moda". El equipo incluye a los estudiantes McMillan Boses, Nara Martinez, Lauren Robey y Kate Smith. También obtuvo el primer lugar, en la categoría Sitio web grupal, otro equipo de séptimo grado de El Dorado, también dirigido por Dove y Morrison, que presentó “Los aviones militares cambiaron la forma en que se pelearon las guerras e impactaron los años venideros”. El segundo lugar en Exposición Individual lo obtuvo la estudiante de sexto grado Zinnia Kilpatric de Amy Biehl, dirigida por el maestro Malcolm Smith Carlile, por “Alice Paul y el movimiento por el sufragio”. También ocuparon el segundo lugar, en la categoría Documental Grupal, los estudiantes de sexto grado de Amy Biehl, Aaden Martinez y Mateo Torres, dirigidos por Smith Carlile, por “The Revolutionary Equation”.

En tercer lugar en la categoría Papel quedó Amy Biehl, estudiante de sexto grado, Catilin Adcock, dirigida por Smith Carlile, por “Pueblo Revolt of 1680”.

• Para Amy Biehl, los equipos de sexto grado de Samuel Briones y Santiago Ocon López inscribieron “Patrullas de esclavos: Los orígenes de la policía moderna” y Amaria Durán y Sophia Gonzales inscribieron “Nicholas Trist y la guerra entre México y Estados Unidos”, ambos en la categoría de Exhibición grupal.

• Para El Dorado, los equipos de séptimo grado de Moira Carlson, Ramsey Klinkrodt, Willow Murphy y Dylan Wilson ingresaron a "El efecto de la revolución industrial en la contaminación" en la categoría Sitio web grupal y Zooey Kessel, Bella Stuckey y Joshua Young ingresaron a "La Revolución Francesa". en la categoría Desempeño del Grupo.

• Para Ortiz, el equipo de séptimo grado formado por Wilmer Alvarado e Irvin Marín inscribió “Creación de FIFA y Jugo Bonito” en la categoría de Exhibición grupal y la estudiante de séptimo grado Akiko Eri ingresó “Un sistema eficaz que utilizó una lengua indígena: los hablantes de códigos navajos”. en la categoría Papel.

La próxima parada para los equipos y estudiantes ganadores son los nacionales, que se llevarán a cabo en Maryland del 9 al 13 de junio.
